| By: Xenia Fong ECHO REPORTER The varsity and JV girls’ rugby teams were at the International School of Beijing September 21 to 23 to participate in China Cup. Other schools that took part in this tournament were Hong Kong International School, the Western Academy of Beijing, and ISB. The varsity girls’ team took second place, after the final against ISB, losing the game 7-36. “We made a lot of easy mistakes and didn’t communicate that well,” said co-captain junior Jessica Lu. However, the varsity girls were able to beat HKIS with a score of 24-10 and WAB with a score of 31-10. “The girls really stepped it up and went above and beyond what we’ve |
seen while playing against Pudong,” said co-captain junior Kiana Miller.
The JV girls’ team took last place in the consolation final against WAB, with a score of 0-17. HKIS took first place in their pool. In the JV girls’ game against HKIS, they lost 0-30. Against ISB, they lost again with a score of 0-25. Although the team was not able to score any points in the tournament, the team’s “improvement has been astounding—I’m so amazed at their progress,” said high school social studies teacher and coach Ms. Hope Myers.
APAC will take place at SAS Pudong on October 24 to 28. Those results will be in the next issue.
