| BY ECHO REPORTER: Jonathan Chen On October 13, both of the girls’ tennis teams had the opportunity to participate in the SISAC tennis tournament held at the Shanghai Rugby Football Club for JV and British International School of Shanghai for varsity. Six schools: British International School of Shanghai, SAS Pudong, SAS Puxi, Concordia International School of Shanghai, SMIC, and the French and German Schoolparticipated in the tournament. The JV girls’ team sent eight out of ten of their players to this tournament, including two doubles teams and four singles teams. |
The two doubles teams consisted of sophomores Natalyn Pow and Kelley Chen and freshmen Rachel Yao and Joy Xie. Pow and Chen were part of the doubles team that won first place during China Cup; however, they were eliminated in the semifinals of SISAC. The singles team consisted of freshman Alexandria Guo and sophomores Emily Ye, Denise Xu, and Joy Kuo. Most of the four singles players won at least one of their matches, but no one advanced to the second round. In the end, the JV team ended up taking home third place. Chen was positive about the tournament, noting, “It was a really great experience for the players that didn’t get to go to China Cup. This tournament was a great ending to the tennis season.”
The varsity girls’ team ended up taking home third place overall in their tournament. Freshman player Nicole Tan had a very positive performance at the tournament, winning first place individually for her team. The team sent two singles teams and one doubles teams. Senior Julie Sand was also very optimistic about the outcome of this tournament. “It was good match practice for APACit really prepared us well for the big tournament.”
