The cross country team has started their new season with many new members under the coaching of Ms. Christine Doleman, high school English teacher; Ms. Sarah Barlett, elementary PHE teacher; and Ms. Alice Hootsman, high school study hall teacher.
After a long summer break, the runners are training hard to get back in shape to set their personal bests of the season. Their season started on September 10, when the team traveled to SAS Pudong to compete in their first meet. Even though the players were not familiar with the new course, a majority of the players shaved seconds—and even minutes—off their most recent time trial.

Only a few days after the SAS Pudong meet, ten boys and six girls left for Taiwan to attend the Pre-Iasas Exchange at Taipei American School. The International School of Beijing, the International School of Manila, and Wen Hua University also attended this meet. SAS Puxi boys finished fifth, but the girls placed second in the race. Leon Zhang, a senior as well as the captain of the boys’ team said, “I am very impressed at the speed of our improvement.” Sophomore Emily Tang finished fourth in the race out of all the runners with the time of 23:28.
The cross country team participated in two more meets at SAS Pudong on September 24 and October 8. On October 15, the SISAC XC Champs was held at SAS Pudong. This was the last meet the team had before APAC this weekend in Guam. The results of both APAC and SISAC XC champs will be in the next issue
