| By: Austin Chan ECHO REPORTER On September 21 through 23, Shanghai American School Puxi hosted China Cup volleyball, playing against the Hong Kong International School, SAS Pudong, and the International School of Beijing. The varsity girls’ volleyball team fared well, beating HKIS 2-1 and SAS Pudong 2-1 while losing against ISB 0-3. After advancing to the playoffs, the varsity girls beat HKIS again, but lost to ISB in three sets in the finals, with scores of 18-25, 24-26, and 16-25, ultimately finishing second. “To be honest, I think we did great and really worked together as a team and had each other’s backs. Even though we did make mistakes occasionally, we just pat each other on the back and motivate each other,” said Joanna Xue, one of the seniors on the team. |
“Since APAC is coming up, we’ll have to improve by communicating more on the court, as well as expecting every single ball to come over the net even if it seems short or out,” added senior Sean Ker, the manager of the team.
For now, the girls are practicing for the APAC tournament, which will take place next week in the Philippines at Brent International School. The results of that tournament will be available in the next issue.
