The varsity rugby girls have already participated in SISAC and one game against SAS Pudong.
On September 8, the Puxi Eagles participated in the SISAC tournament on the Pudong field, ending the tournament with one win, one tie, and one loss. Scores were not counted since the tournament was “just for learning how to play,” said junior Kiana Miller. “It was our first actual game of the season, so we weren’t as prepared, but we gradually got better and better,” said junior Alicia Zhang. On September 15, they played again at SAS Puxi. Those results will be in the next issue.

Because there are no other competitive high school girls’ rugby teams in Shanghai, except for SAS Pudong, the team only participates in weekend games against Pudong throughout the season until China Cup and APAC.
Although the team lost four seniors this season, five new players were welcomed in their place, many brought up from last year’s JV team. Ms. Hope My- ers, coach of the varsity girls’ rugby team and high school social studies teacher, said that so far the team is looking very strong.
As to whether or not the team will be victorious once again at APAC is “unpredictable.” “The girls will play hard, work hard, and try their darn best,” said Coach Myers. According to Ms. Myers, the team has all the tools necessary to be champions at APAC and an extremely strong chance of proudly bringing home the gold.
The rugby China Cup will take place this weekend at the International School of Beijing. Those results will also be in the next issue.
